SUMMARY:CoP Live: Restraint and Human rights
DESCRIPTION:In the first RRN CoP Live session\, we invite members to join us exploring the misuse of restraint and its implications for human rights. \n\n\n\nRestraint is\, by its nature\, traumatic. It can and does cause harm. While in some exceptional circumstances restraint can be lawful and lifesaving\, we should seek to eliminate its use except to prevent serious and imminent harm. \n\n\n\nJoin with other members of the RRN Community of Practice to find out how the RRN’s new position statement clarifies the charity’s aims and discuss what you can do in your own practice to support these goals. \n\n\n\nThe event will host a panel discussion on the implications of the RRN’s new position statement across sectors. \n\n\n\nThe RRN Members’ Community of Practice (CoP) is an inclusive community for RRN members in which to share resources\, ask questions\, and discuss challenges and solutions towards improving practice. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: This event is open only to people with individual RRN membership. If you are an individual member of the RRN you will have received an email with details of how to register to join.

SUMMARY:Implementing Seni's Law
DESCRIPTION:Seni’s Law (The Use of Force Act\, 2018) is named after Olaseni ‘Seni’ Lewis\, who was tragically killed as a result of prolonged prone restraint. Seni’s family have campaigned ever since to prevent similar tragedies. \n\n\n\nThis webinar will support organisations to meet the requirements of Seni’s law. We will explore the impact of the Act so far and how RRN resources can help organisations to reach the requirements for Sections 3 and 4. \n\n\n\nWe will hear from: \n\n\n\n\nAji Lewis – Seni’s mother.\n\n\n\nTabitha Mufti -Department of Health and Social Care.\n\n\n\nDr Beverly Samways – University of Bristol\n\n\n\nAlexis Quinn – Restraint Reduction Network

SUMMARY:Beyond the hold: restraint reduction through trauma informed systems
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Restraint Reduction Network Conference focuses on closing the gap between high-level restraint reduction guidelines and the reality of what people experience when they are distressed.   \n\n\n\nThroughout the programme we will move beyond considering the ‘how’ of restraint and instead explore why distress happens in the first place\, spotlighting the importance of nervous system regulation – understanding how and why a person responds to distress – and cultural inclusion.   \n\n\n\nThe conference will be of interest to professionals and practitioners working to reduce restrictive practices across health\, social care and education. People with lived experience are warmly welcomed.  \n\n\n\nOur line-up of lived experience speakers\, practice leaders and academic experts will explore and share practical\, evidence-based tools that help transform organisational culture and create environments where people’s safety is defined by belonging\, rather than control and restraint.  \n\n\n\nDelegates will also join practical\, solutions-driven workshops\, gaining tools and insights that can be applied across sectors\, and in settings supporting people at every stage of life.  \n\n\n\nOffering a truly hybrid conference experience\, delegates can join us in-person in Newcastle or online via our conference platform\, Cvent\, giving them the flexibility to take part in the conference in the way that suits them best.
