32 women die after being restrained

New research published today by Agenda, the alliance for women and girls at risk,  reveals 32 women have died after experiencing restraint over a five-year period.

The data, on patients detained under the Mental Health Act, suggest women were more likely to have restraint-related deaths than men between 2012/13 and 2016/17.

Katharine Sacks Jones, the Director of Agenda and co-chair of the Women’s Mental Health Taskforce at the Department of Health and Social Care, was interviewed on Radio 4’s Today programme this morning and the Victoria Derbyshire show on BBC 2.
