Like-minded organisations in pursuit of restraint-free services

Conference 2019

Reducing the use of restrictive practices is a significant part of protecting and respecting people’s human rights. It’s everybody’s responsibility to ensure their use is minimised.

This conference is a meeting point for people who want to learn from each other about how to best support vulnerable people without needing to resort to applying unnecessary restraints and restrictions that have a traumatic impact on everyone.

This event included international and UK based speakers who will present both new ideas and review existing practices at both the individual and organisational level, and who will also remind us of the importance of our endeavours. There was a wide range of practice based workshops to inspire and create debate.

Our speakers included:

  • Janice LeBel, Massachusetts Department of Mental Health
  • Bruce Adamson, Children’s Commissioner, Scotland
  • Petra Bjorne, Lund University, Sweden
  • Dr Rebecca Fish, Lancaster University, England
  • Dr Rory Sheeran, University College, England
