Top Priority 1
The main priority in the Leadership and Governance domain is to establish strong leadership accountability and oversight to drive the reduction of restrictive practices and improve the quality of life for service users. Our focus and delivery on core priorities is to reduce harm to patients by the application of de-scalation techniques and promotion of a positive supportive experience during conveyance.
Measure of Success
A measurable decrease in the use of restraints, seclusion, or other restrictive interventions over time, tracked through internal audits and incident reports. Improvement in key indicators such as service user satisfaction, engagement in meaningful activities, and overall well-being, assessed through feedback surveys and outcome measures. Evidence of a clearly documented organisation-wide plan that includes strategies to reduce restrictive practices, with regular updates and reviews. Increased staff participation in restraint reduction training programs, with competency assessments demonstrating improved understanding and application of positive behaviour support strategies. Achieving compliance with relevant national standards and receiving positive external evaluations or accreditation related to restraint reduction efforts.
Top Priority 2
The main priority in the Data, Planning, and Review domain is to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting systems to drive informed decision-making, reduce restrictive practices, and improve service quality.
Measure of Success
Regular collection, analysis, and reporting of restraint and restrictive practice data, through internal and external audits to identify trends, inform interventions, and guide improvements. Measurable enhancements in service user well-being, engagement, and satisfaction, tracked through surveys and feedback mechanisms. Development and dissemination of reports on restrictive practices to key stakeholders, including staff and external regulators. Use of data to implement targeted interventions, such as staff training, environmental modifications, or policy updates, with clear tracking of their impact. Increased staff participation in data collection and review processes, ensuring they understand and use data to drive continuous improvement in practice. Positive evaluations from regulatory bodies like the CQC and RRN/BILD demonstrating the effective use of data in reducing restrictive practices and enhancing service delivery.
Top Priority 3
The main priority in the Workforce Development domain is to equip all staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to implement restraint reduction strategies, respond sensitively to behaviours of concern, and promote a culture of positive, person-centred care.
Measure of Success
100% of staff complete mandatory training in restraint reduction, positive behaviour support (PBS), trauma-informed care, and de-escalation techniques. Staff competency assessments show an increased ability to prevent, manage, and respond sensitively to behaviours of concern, measured through staff supervision and annual appraisals. We have measured a decrease in incidents requiring restrictive interventions, indicating improved staff responses and proactive behaviour management strategies. Through training feedback surveys and engagement, we have identified improved staff confidence in handling behaviours of concern. Staff undergo regular refresher courses, coaching, and reflective practice sessions to reinforce learning and support continuous improvement.
