Building Rewarding Lives in the Community
Living in the community is about more than bricks and mortar, food, warmth and basic hygiene. It’s about proactive, responsible support and meaningful relationships.
Too often, there is an assumption that higher staffing in a person’s community support result in improved outcomes. Instead, the right staff, with the right training and the right attitude, can better enable personalised, meaningful least-restrictive support.
These new resources share the experiences of both people receiving support and staff providing support, and their experiences of high staffing levels (e.g., more than two staff supporting one person with disabilities). The resources suggest both organisational and individual solutions to improve practice.
