INVOLVE resources – NIHR

INVOLVE was established in 1996 and is part of, and funded by, the National Institute for Health Research, to support active public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research. 

There are more researchers and research commissioners working alongside the public for the first time than ever before, and INVOLVE are committed to maximising that participation.

In conjunction with the National Institute for Health Research they have recently published ‘Briefing notes for researchers: public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research’ which contains ten  briefing notes for researchers that expand on how to involve members of the public in research.

You can visit their ‘User controlled research’ area, which covers research that is actively controlled, directed and managed by service users and their service user organisations. 

They delivered a webinar on ‘User Controlled Research’ presented by Professor Peter Beresford, Dr Sarah Carr and Mike Clark. You can view the slides from the webinar here.

Their Jargon Buster contains the definitions of some of the terms commonly used in public involvement in research.

They also provide plain English summaries of key information. These are brief summaries that have been written for members of the public and an interested audience rather than specialists.
