Lead Tutor, Dr Noelle Blackman
The RRN is delighted to introduce Dr Noelle Blackman as lead tutor on the new Diploma Practice Leadership in Trauma Informed Practice.
Dr Noelle Blackman is a consultant, trainer, clinical supervisor, coach and mentor in the fields of health, social care and education. With extensive experience in disability and psychotherapy, community inclusion and resilience, Noelle is an expert in trauma-informed practice and a champion of relational approaches to supporting well-being and recovery in systems, services and local communities.
As former CEO of Respond, a national charity providing therapy and specialist support services to people with learning disabilities, autism or both, she was responsible for pioneering trauma-informed practice across the UK health and social care sector, and is a regular and highly regarded speaker and contributor to national and international symposia and conferences.
An allied health professional and trained clinical supervisor, Noelle is a member of the British Association of Dramatherapists, and a founder member of the Institute of Psychotherapy and Disability. Her PhD focused on The Use of Psychotherapy in Supporting People with Intellectual Disabilities who Have Experienced Bereavement. She is the lead author on a chapter on the Respond model of psychotherapy which will be published in December 2024 and her current research is conducting further validation of the Bereavement Needs Assessment Tool (BNAT) she first developed in 2008.
Noelle is also the founder and Chair of Broxbourne Big Local, the legacy charity of the Big Local project which ran for 10 years in her local area. The people in this deprived area were given £1million over 10 years to decide together how to spend it to create a lasting legacy. Together they saved the Community Centre from demolition securing a 999 year lease on a peppercorn rent and are now well into the process of turning it into a thriving local creative space for everyone.
We are delighted that Noelle has joined the Bild Group as an Associate Consultant and look forward to working with her to improve understanding in trauma informed practice.
