Still not sure what to pledge?
Here are some examples of pledges others have made:
Pledge 1
Planned Action:Â Ensure all the staff I employ are well supported and trained to have a full understanding of my son as the loved and well liked young man he is in his home community, and to show how strength based proactive support is based on two way relationships, preventing admission to often abusive restrictive hospital settings where people are unnecessarily restrained, and left traumatised further with no one held to account.
Measure of Success:
- Reduction in the stress and challenges restraint in hospital has caused for our son.
- That I will have a highly committed skilled staff team who will be role models for supporting other families.
- That our son will not be living in fear that at any moment he could be sent away because there is not enough daily support for him to remain in his own home.
- Evidence of excellence, that humanity, truly valuing everyone and understanding the people you are supporting using strength based proactive support is key to ensuring good times for all and the best possible life for our son despite the many daily challenges he has to overcome.
Pledge 2
Planned Action:Â To make sure that every Young Person living at my service has a PBS plan in place and updated regularly, consulting with family and friends close to the individual in completing the PBS plans. This I am hoping will give the individuals a good quality of life and give the staff team the tools to enable this to happen by taking away the risk for behaviours of concern been displayed.
Measure of Success:
- Reduction in physical intervention, the young people that live in our services having less interventions and leading a good quality of life, building on the relationships that the individuals have with the staff team.
- Reduction in the need for physical intervention will mean that the young people will be able to join community groups and feel part of the local neighbourhood.
Pledge 3
Planned Action:Â Ensure that students who I have contact with who are accessing professional programmes are aware of the importance of reducing the use of and reliance on all forms of restraint and restrictive practice. I will do this through my teaching, my sharing of practice based examples and my own continued commitment to my own practice and the reducing and minimisation of restraint.
Measure of Success:
I will look for communication and acknowledgement in relation to student experiences and discussion/reflections of restraint and restrictive practice. I will be able to embed the notion of restraint reduction within the educational programmes that I have contact with but also across my own organisation and those who we have partnerships with
