Top Priority 1
Ensure we have leaders who understand that those we serve are the real bosses - they pay all our wages and without them we wouldn't have jobs! Our leadership team ensure that each person supported is able to perceive themselves as active participants in their own life-projects and that they continually experience an increase in their quality of life year on year.
Measure of Success
We circulate feedback questionnaires to all stakeholders every six months. In the questionnaire there are specific questions around the culture and ways of working but also more specifically around management and leadership within the organisation. Weekly meetings and regular supervision and training for leaders. Monthly unannounced spot checks and audits by Registered Manager.
Top Priority 2
We use the data collected to identify and support those workers who are struggling in their relationships with the people they support. We have a saying , 'behaviour problems are often relationship problems'. Rather than focus on the supported person's behaviour, we focus on the caregiver; supporting them to rethink their assumptions and what they could do differently next time. Conversely, we collect and share examples of good practice with the person, their team and their family. This helps some caregivers to see alternative ways of thinkings about problems and behaviours of concern.
Measure of Success
We look for a reduction in instances of challenging behaviour between individual team members and more generally. Increased job-satisfaction reported in feedback questionnaire and during supervision where staff are asked to score their feelings of safety and wellbeing at work. Inspection reports demonstrate our progress for all stakeholders to see (e.g. CQC, PAMMS, Inclusion Gloucestershire)
Top Priority 3
Ensure all team members understand that it is they who make the difference. Their relationships largely dictate the person at the centre's wellbeing and quality of life. It is not enough to simply focus on what needs to change in the person supported. To help with this, we run regular workshops and shared video review sessions internally and ensure staff have access to behaviour support training and low arousal approaches from outside training providers.
Measure of Success
Reductions in staff turnover rates and in instances of behaviours of concern. Employee feedback questionnaires and training evaluation forms (e.g. we support people who have been described as 'complex and challenging' yet our staff report that they feel safe and competent in their workplace.) Feedback questionnaires from other stakeholders Inspection reports demonstrate our progress for all stakeholders to see (e.g. CQC, PAMMS, Inclusion Gloucestershire)
